Scholarships

Below, students can find information about six scholarships awarded through OAS.

Scholarship Applications through OAS for the 2022-2023 academic year will open on April 3, 2023, at 8:00 AM EST, and are due April 28, 2023, at 5:00 PM EST. Scholarships available outside of OAS may have different application dates and deadlines.

All application amounts are to be determined. Scholarships will be awarded depending on the availability of funds.

Brenda Biafora Scholarship

The Brenda Biafora Scholarship may be awarded to an Eberly College undergraduate major with mental health-related disability to aid the student in moving forward and completing a degree at West Virginia University. Recipients are selected by the Dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences in consultation with the Office of Accessibility Services and the Financial Aid Office.

Sparagna Scholarship

The Frances Anthony Sparagna III Scholarship may be awarded to an undergraduate student with a learning disability or a physical disability who demonstrates academic promise and is majoring in an Arts and Sciences degree program at West Virginia University. Recipients are selected by the Dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences in consultation with the Office of Accessibility Services and the Financial Aid Office.

Milan Roh Endowed Scholarship

The Milan Roh Endowed Scholarship was established in June 2000 to benefit qualified students attending West Virginia University who have a documented disability. Awards are made through the WVU Office of Financial Aid with assistance from the WVU Office of Accessibility Services.

Eligible students must:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student on the WVU Morgantown Campus
  • Have a documented disability, as verified by the WVU Office of Accessibility Services (preference given to students with physical disabilities)
  • Be receiving accommodations through the WVU Office of Accessibility Services
  • Have demonstrated a financial need, as determined by the WVU Office of Financial Aid
  • Have achieved satisfactory academic progress and not be graduating the semester of the award

John C. Solomon Scholarship

The John C. Solomon Scholarship was established in August 1995 to benefit qualified full-time West Virginia University undergraduate students with a Disability who have a demonstrated financial need. Preference for the award will be given to students with physical disabilities; however, students with other disabilities will be considered as well.

Applicants must have graduated from a Monongalia County high school. Awards will be made through the West Virginia Department of Financial Aid with assistance from the Office of Accessibility Services.

Esther L. Crane Endowed Scholarship

The Ester L. Crane Scholarship was established in 2012 to benefit qualified student veterans attending West Virginia University who have a documented disability. Awards are made through the WVU Office of Financial Aid with assistance from the WVU Office of Accessibility Services. Eligible students must:

  • Be an undergraduate student on the WVU Morgantown Campus
  • Be a West Virginia resident
  • Be a United States Military Veteran
  • Have a documented disability, as verified by the WVU Office of Accessibility Services

William W. Pepper Law Scholarship

The William W. Pepper Law Scholarship was established in 2022 to benefit qualified graduate students attending West Virginia University's College of Law who have a documented disability. Awards are made through the WVU Office of Financial Aid with assistance from the WVU Office of Accessibility Services. Preference for the award will be given to students with a hearing disability; second preference will be given to students with a physical disability; however, students with other disabilities will be considered as well. Eligible students must:

  • Be a West Virginia resident
  • Be a graduate student majoring in the College of Law
  • Have graduated from a West Virginia High School
  • Have a documented disability, as verified by the WVU Office of Accessibility Services 
  • Have demonstrated a financial need, as determined by the WVU Office of Financial Aid

External Scholarships

All scholarships listed below are handled outside of the Office of Accessibility Services and may have different requirements, applications, and deadlines. Please contact the program that established the scholarship for any additional information.

Future is Yours — WV Child

Established by West Virginian youth Kati Hatfield, this scholarship awards $500 annually to a student who resides in one of West Virginia’s 55 Counties. This student must also have an ADHD diagnosis, was at some point a ward of state, foster child or adoptee (internationally or domestically). Additional qualifications include being accepted into a college, university of trade school and have a GPA of at least 3.0.
